Our aim was to make this lesser-known dimension of Jelinek’s work accessible to Romanian readers through a bilingual German–Romanian edition. While Elfriede Jelinek is internationally recognized for her prose and theatrical texts, her poetry remains comparatively underexplored. The volumes LISAS SCHATTEN (1967), her first book publication, and ENDE. GEDICHTE VON 1966–1968 (2000) constitute the only standalone poetry collections published in the German-speaking world. These early works already contain the seeds of her later motifs and the radical linguistic strategies that would come to define her oeuvre, yet they have never been republished. It has largely been through translations into other languages that Jelinek’s original poems have been brought back into circulation. To date, only three bilingual editions exist: a Polish edition (2000), a French edition (2014), and a Spanish edition (2018). Our Romanian translation seeks to contribute to this limited but important international engagement with Jelinek’s poetic work. DE Im Rahmen des i-Portunus Mobilitätsstipendiums für literarische ÜbersetzerInnen habe ich im Sommer 2021, zusammen mit meiner Projektpartnerin Iuliana Dumitru, über dreißig Gedichte von Elfriede Jelinek ins Rumänische übersetzt. Es war und ist unser Vorhaben, dass diese 2023 in einer zweisprachigen Ausgabe auf Deutsch und Rumänisch erscheinen werden. Die Lyrik der österreichischen Literaturnobelpreisträgerin ist bis dato deutlich weniger bekannt und verbreitet als ihre Prosa- und Theatertexte. Die Bände „LISAS SCHATTEN” (Jelineks erste Buchpublikation, erschienen 1967) und ENDE. GEDICHTE VON 1966-1968” (2000) sind die einzigen und auch einmaligen Veröffentlichungen im deutschen Sprachraum. Dazu kamen noch vereinzelte Erscheinungen in literarischen Zeitschriften und Anthologien. Zu einer Neuveröffentlichung dieser zwei Bände ist es auch nie gekommen, trotz dem steigenden Interesse für Jelineks Oeuvre und der Tatsache, dass dort die Keime künftiger Motive und Themen und des radikalen Duktus der Autorin auffindbar sind. Es ist vor allem aufgrund von Übersetzungen in andere Sprachen gewesen, dass uns Jelineks Originalgedichte nahe gebracht werden konnten.
